Environmental education

Our school is committed to learning about sustainability and the environment and we have been actively implementing programs over the past few years, to reiterate these ideas within the classroom and school community.

In order to engage and expand our student's interest and involvement in conservation, sustainability and environmental issues, we have built a permanent vegetable garden. This has raised garden beds for ease of access. A frog pond has also been established.

This once neglected and underutilised area is now giving students the opportunity to apply their learning of life cycles, gardening practices and the weather to a physical setting where they can observe the growth, changes and impacts of their actions on the environment.

The garden includes vegetables, fruit trees, bush foods and herbs. This produce is used for cooking lessons. The pumpkins have been winners with the students. We also currently operate a worm cafe, compost system and weekly recylcing program and are also being more mindful of our use of energy and natural resources, in a bid to make Beverley Park a more eco-friendly school.

Beverley Park School is a member of the Sustainable Schools Network.
